SEO Friendly URL

Example :

Non SEO friendly URL: http://www.yourdomainname.com/page.php?page_id=103

SEO friendly URL:  http://www.yourdomainname.com/seo-friendly-url

Next and one of the important step for your SEO process is to have a SEO friendly URL. Your URL’s should be short well structured URLs relevant keywords which will be easy for search engines and users as they convey the meaning of the page and overall site structure.

You should always avoid:

  • Long SEO unfriendly URLs with lots of unnecessary parameters
  • Underscore between 2 words
  • Over use of query parameters, hyphens or underscores, keywords, folders or special characters of any kind
  • File type extensions for your pages

Ideally your site URLs should be short and contain keywords that are relevant to the content on the page (but do not over do it).

You can make your URL SEO friendly in various way:

1) If you using CMS then you can simply install plugin or module or component

WordPress: ALL in once SEO (http://www.deanlee.cn/wordpress/permalinks-migration-plugin/)

Joomla: sh404SEF (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/sef/10134) or

JoomSEF (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/sef/1063)

Drupal: Pathauto (http://drupal.org/project/pathauto)

If you using your own cms / php site / html site or any other options you can change URLs with .htaccess file

Option 1) Use .htaccess URL rewrite generator (http://www.myseotool.com/free-seo-tools/htaccess-url-rewrite-generator.php)

or Option 2) Create your own rewrite rule refer this blog (http://zenverse.net/seo-friendly-urls-with-htaccess/)

So according to me keep URL’s as short as possible and as close to the home page as possible.
